On January 28, 2010, Vision to Visionaries: Women Empowered, a panel discussion hosted by Camille Cosby, Ed.D., was held in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Academic Center Auditorium at Spelman College, the facility dedicated in her honor in 1996. A collaboration between Spelman College and the National Visionary Leadership Project, the event assembled an eclectic group of world-renowned panelist to celebrate the contributions of Black women leaders. An exceptional athlete, Shana Rochester (forefront), C’2012, plays two sports for the Lady Jaguars. Spelman Responds Immediately to Help Haiti
When last month's tragic earthquake hit the Caribbean nation of Haiti, the Spelman campus community mobilized to help millions in need. In just four days, mathematics major Nakaiya Turk, C'2012, raised $1,000, while representatives from the Office of Student Life and Engagement, Bonner Office of Community Service and Student Development, and several student organizations met to discuss campus-wide volunteer efforts. One of those organizations, the Caribbean American Student Association, established a "Red Box Campaign" to assist the earthquake victims. SAGE Trip Immerses Students in Japanese Culture
During the 2009 winter break, 40 Spelman College students traveled to Japan to experience its unique culture and way of living. The trip was arranged in conjunction with the Spelman student organization, Student Affairs Global Experience Program. SAGE provides substantive opportunities for students to learn about diverse cultures and values of the world, including global experiences that enable them to function in a multicultural environment. From Dec. 12-22, the students visited cities including Tokyo, Hiroshima and Narita.
