Promising Rwandan Scholars Get Shot at U.S. College Education
In early April, Arlene Cash, vice president for Enrollment Management, traveled to Rwanda on a unique global mission to interview and select from among the brightest math and science students in Rwanda. As a member of the Associated Colleges of the South, Spelman now joins Morehouse and Philander Smith colleges as part of the Rwanda Presidential Scholars Program, a program designed to bring Rwandan students to the United States to complete their undergraduate studies. Summer Breezes and Summer Camps
It’s the first Monday of summer break for many of metro Atlanta’s schools. However, for about 28 middle school boys, it’s the first day of the Spelman College CARE Summer Computer Camp. Held May 24-28 for boys, and June 7-11 for girls, the camp offers these 12- to 14-year-olds one week of exposure to computer science and robotics. While PlayStation, X-Box and other gaming systems offer these dexterous youth ample consumer opportunities of computer science, the camp provides valuable computer science instruction and a glimpse into a worthwhile future career. Emotions Run High at Spelman’s 123rd Commencement
Some cheered, some cried, and some stood in amazement as the Spelman College graduating class of 2010 entered Exhibit Hall C at the Georgia World Congress Center promptly at 3 p.m. It was May 16, 2010, and this was their moment.
